NA’s Darkening Moon. This is a scent of Darkened Hearts and Darkened Spirits. This Moon will evolve you away from the darkness and introspect the light within away from depression. Close your eyes to the powers of the Moon and let her tempt you from the darkening of her heart and of her spirit but only for a moment until you break through her spell and embrace your own so that in turn you can turn towards your own light. Worn on the wrist and inner elbow the sensuality of Dark and Sweet ingredients resonate on the skin together with the pheromones of ones own scent. When warmed the scent of pure bliss will lift from you and aerate your entire being with spiritual uplifting. Wear Obsidian Moon and open your consciousness and heart to the endless possibilities of the dark within. Let the shadows of memory remind you of forgiveness within your self.
When we first began to gather insight on this moon we looked to the research of Egyptian lore and what it meant in terms of scent. More than once Obsidian was the ideal foresight as was the term of charging and what it meant to the one asking for the oil. A charged Obsidian is the black glass of one's own self and represented by the spiritual and healing properties of spiritual awareness and warding off negative energy within. In retrospect what energy you do call to you is bountiful and beautiful.
Obsidian is a gemstone that is a black glass in pure form. A mineral formed of volcanic eruptions. It is known for the dark green, black and 'snowflake' mottled nuances that exhibit a void within it's core - therefore we have induced dark woods and citrus zest into this Moon.
Typically oils were made for the Queens and Pharaohs of Egypt. We have taken time and care to bring you our next Moon and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do. It’s a wonderful oil for a beautiful cool enchanting evening under the stars or basking under the Summer sun and warming the skin - this is probably the best way to smell every single sweet accord enlisted in this Obsidian Moon (with the aid of warmth).
Honeycomb, Lemon Essential Oil, Sweet Orange Zest, Red Amber, Cypress, Vetiver, Limestone Amber, Hazelnut, Warm Cream, Vanilla, Orange and Agarwood.
I normally give an oil a few days to recover from mail trauma before reviewing but this Moon is SO beautiful I couldn't wait.
Once in a rare while something comes along that touches and moves you to the very essence of your being... I hope I can do her justice.
This is dark, but not...cool, but warm...sweet, but tart. The individual notes rise and then dart away, standing alone for an instant, then together all at once in the next. The Moon shimmering over sacred temples as incense burns and the chants of temple priests are carried on the breeze. The haunting Moon of the Ancients...eerie in its beauty. Comforting and energizing. A cloud of darkness that envelopes and protects you, as Obsidian is meant to do. A Moon of seduction, and even as protective the feeling it gives, it's also almost sinister. She'll devour you even as she quickens you...will weaken you before she nourishes you...
There are so many things this blend evokes, I could go on forever...and I might, coming back to add more as I get to know her better. For me, this is the most perfect of Moons. Unbridled Darkness in all her glory. _________________ Qhaveat Pharaoh Hounds

Sweet dark earth, warm honeycomb, smokey green cypress… after a few minutes to warm up the scent cools and hardens, the citrus brightens, brings light in this darkening scent. A few moments later, warmth, radiating heat… The sweetness is still present, lovely ambers and honeycomb. Smoldering, sweet and dry. Vetiver emerges, sweet grassy incense... And here's a bit of the tart, the blend lightens, becomes smooth and ethereal. a wisp of smoke...

Open the bottle and be ready for a RUSH! A rush of many different, but well matched smells! First breathe in lightly and it's a warm luscious gingerbread-type smell, but strangely with a cooling almost minty sidekick. Then breathe deeply and it changes. This time, it's more of a wintery, slightly citrous breeze blowing outside a nearby bakery. It's yummy, but also earthy. What an amazing combination!! On the skin, it's so different than either description above. I smell more sweetness vanilla and Hazelnut. This stage is truly beautiful. Then it become buttery honey biscuit-like but drenched in cream. There are so many wonderful smells in this that it seems to be playing tricks with my mind. One thing they all have in common, though, is YUM! As time marches on, it warms up even more and the vetiver makes it to the forefront, but still balanced with sweet nutiness and a hint of amber. What an incredible morpher, and through all stages, gorgeliscious! I think this one might have just taken out my all-time favorite Moon - Lapiz Moon! I'm sad about that as well as thrilled!!! There MUST be backups of this one added to my stash before they are gone forever! _________________ It's my favorite scent and I adore dragons... so I just HAD to pick that name.

Bottle: Hazelnut and vanilla.
Me: Hazelnut and vanilla, with bursts of citrus from the orange and lemon. Also getting something woodsy mingled in with it all. This is definitely another unique and complex moon scent. The vetiver makes it dark and a little heavy, but isn't overpowering like it sometimes can be. My only problem with this scent, which goes on lovely, is that it develops a slightly bitter note after a few moments. Gonna see how it dries down...
Later: This dries down to a sweet, dark, slightly floral scent that I like. I wish the hazelnut stayed around longer, though! _________________

Obsidian Moon
In bottle: vetiver and anise? Also something buttery like pumpkin. This reminds me of the Scarabs, specifically Darker Scarab.
On skin: ok, this smells weird on me. it smells like savoury pumpkin curry! The vetiver is strong and nutty, that nuttiness boosted by the hazelnut, but there’s a really odd scent of Thai pumpkin curry to this, I smell the pumpkin and the spices and a lemon note which seems to smell like lemongrass in here. There’s also a shot of aniseed here, and a dark woodsy cypress. It’s a very unusual scent…where’s the honey, and where are the amber and vanilla? However, thankfully, this curry smell does fade in 10 minutes and the scent I’m left with is really lovely! Soft sweet honeycomb with a bit of spicy vanilla cream and a touch of sugary red amber and hazelnut. The vetiver is still there, but it’s in the background, darkening the sweetness a bit. Atfter some time the lovely cream note shows up a bit more, and this smells like a lovely vanilla-cream with nuts and vetiver and honey, there’s even a hint of coconut. The vetiver comes out a bit more at drydown, it’s the strongest vetiver note I’ve smelt from NA. I’ll have to try this again because though it’s nice, it’s not wowing me in the same way as the previous moons. Something in here isn’t right on me. but I do like it and will keep it…not sure whether to get a backup.
Wet this was Honeycomb, Orange Zest and Hazelnut, and apparently I don't really like Hazelnut - this is the second oil I've sampled today with it that is heading to the Swap pile.
Once it dries, this is all Sweet ( sweet! ) Orange and maybe a little Amber, but not enough to redeem the single note Orange. I'd shower with this, but I don't care for it as a perfume.
*sigh* all those lovely notes listed, and all I get is Orange. _________________ Feed Me!Feed Me!
Just put this on, so it's still wet . . . it's very smokey. Woodsy smoke, like somewhere off in the distance a fire is dying. Something nutty, yum. I love hazelnuts. And honeycomb! Beeswax and sweet, fresh honey.
Oooh. Here comes the orange, slowly creeping up out of the ashes. (Yeah, my reviews are full of lame stuff like that. )
Let's see, what else is in here . . . ?
Something green.
And, vetiver . . . is that you? Are you actually behaving on my skin so far?
This really beautifully captures Obsidian Moon. It's very dark, but alluring. And there is brightness through the darkness, from the citrus. This is a thought provoking scent. I can definitely see it being an introspective scent. Would make for a beautiful room scent if one was in need of some quiet mind/soul searching.
I am really amazed by how well these notes blend together. Another incredible piece of art from the NAlchemists. (I think we need a bowing emoticon.)

In the vial, Obsidian Moon is fascinatingly dark, yet sweet. I can smell the vetiver wafting in the background, and it gives just the right smokiness to this blend. Very fitting for obsidian, which is one of my favorite stones.
Once this hits my skin, however, the vetiver all but disappears and this becomes oranges and honey. It smells rather like one of those orange-spiced teas, heavily sweetened. Hmmm. Am I actually wishing there were more vetiver? I think yes! The sweet elements amp to a cloying degree on my skin.
While this is quite beautiful, I am not crazy about what my skin does to it. I adore all the moons, but I think I'll take a gamble and skip this one, hoarding my money for NAlloween and the new full moon!
