Anubis

Postby whiskerswhispers » Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:23 am

Anubis

In vial: smoky nag champa, myrrh, amber and musk.
On skin: mmm, now a tangy, almost effervescent Egyptian musk bubbles up into the scent and I get a hint of frankincense and lemon, but there’s a smoky, patchouli/opium like scent to it as well, which reminds me of the NA LE The Underworld (how apt). The amber adds a slight hint of golden sweetness, but it’s mainly incense and fresh Egyptian musk. It’s not as dark as I expected-the musk note is surprisingly bright and zingy-but there’s smoke and incense and maybe something like myrrh to this as well…it’s a very dry, smouldering kyphi smoke winding through the sparkling musk that contrasts it. this is an unusual scent-I like the incense that I get underneath the musk, but the fizzy scent of the light musk on top is very unusual and smells almost like a sherbet powder or champagne (maybe there’s a wine note to this?) The scent does get even nicer at drydown when I get a red wine, light musk and myrrh scent, the kyphi I was expecting. An unusual but definitely pleasant mix of lively fruity musk over dark, shadowy incense, it’s not one for a bottle but it’s a keeper.

In the bottle: patchouli lightened by Egyptian amber, with a slight aquatic note that underlies all the NA's which I call the "Nile" note.

Wet: same, patchouli, amber, a hint of the Nile, ohhh and musk. :pheart:

Dry down: patchouli and amber are slow dancing together, Nile is manning the music. Musk is at the buffet table chatting up lemon but lemon is shy and hides behind her hands a lot. Oh yes, this is wonderful!

30 minutes: patchouli and amber have started jumping to the rave music playing, causing spiceness to emit from the heat. Nile is scratching the records. Musk and lemon are in a dark corner making out, with lemon in the shadows so you can't see what she is doing.

Conclusion: this is wonderful. Has great throw, lasts forever on my skin! It is really unisex, though for floral wearers you may see this as masculine, but try it anyway, I don't think you will be disappointed. I was really surprised at how "light" this was. For an underworld god, Anubis is not as dark as I expected. This is an Anubis that is frisky, and fun. He doesn't take death too seriously. This is an Anubis walking around the temple halls in the bright Egyptian sun. Love this! In fact, I see this Anubis like Death in the Sandman series. :D I must get a big bottle of this one, representing one of my favorite gods in the Egyptian pantheon.

This is mostly a sweet nag champa on me..the drydown reveals a lil bit of myrrh if I sniff reaaal close. My brother loved my skarab of this so I ordered him a bottle. I noticed its more myrrh & musks on him..must be the skin chemistry kickin in. Regardless..its one of my(our)fave blends! :pheart:

First review and an unsophisticated nose. Forgive me!

In the bottle: Lovely, musky nag champa. Not what I was expecting, but I love nag champa so it's all good.

On skin: Still nag champa, but now I smell something resiny underneath. Myrrh, maybe?

Drydown: A not-too-sweet note comes out to mellow things a bit. I'm going to call it amber, which is one of my favorite scents. Great throw, too. I love this!

In short: :hearts: I've always felt an affinity with Lord Anubis, which is why I wanted to try this scent. The dark incense quality to it is pleasant and evocative of him.

Plus, a cute guy at work complemented me on it and that's worth it's weight in gold!

First off, let me say that the NAlchemists have made an excellent blend yet again; very well blended and rounded.
I'm not quite sure what Nag Champa is supposed to smell like, but if this is it, I want more!

In the vial:
Somewhat woodsy, with the barest hint of something citrus.

Wet:
Frankincense and mild citrus, with a very well-behaved musk.

Dry:
Scent stays fairly close to the skin, but envelops me in a warm and fuzzy halo of WIN. It is really hard for me to detect individual notes in this one. A previous poster mentions red wine, but I don't get that at all. Red wine notes don't agree with me, but Anubis is just wonderful. This is a fairly masculine scent, and since I'm particularly fond of masculine scents it's a great one for me.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Oh, my God. Well, He might be now!

(This review was done without looking at the note listing, or at other reviews, because I'm trying to train my nose.)

In the skarabite: oh, so familiar but I can't name it! It reminds me of certain occult bookstores three decades ago... sweet round almost-fruit scent, and mystery. Spice, too... is there cardamom in this one too?

Wet: Sandalwood! It goes very smooth, and the fruity note submerges. Dry wood comes out. This is really nice on me. We'll see how the morphing goes.

Later: sweetness coming back up, almost like dragon's blood resin.

Later still: WHOAH! Beautiful ambery-incense waft! I am in love.

OK, this is a big win. Whatever's in it, I love this.

({Looks at reviews now} Oh! Nag champa! I love nag champa. It sure goes well with the amber here. Really, really nice blend.)

This is a good scent for me. Its dark and clean. Although, its not quite as heavy and dark as I wanted it still works for me. I do smell something somewhat aquatic but it reminds me not of surface waters. It reminds me almost of a dark river of the underworld. The clean reminds me of perhaps bandages freshly wrapped and other herbs used to prepare the body for entombment. After a day of digesting it in my mind, I am beginning to grow particularly fond of this scent.

Subtle Lemon laced incense. Has a nice smokiness that counter some of that citrus zing. This one pretty much stays the same wet and dry. Though after 20 minutes or so the incense softens it's edges.

Was hoping for something a little darker and resinous. This makes a very nice room scent.

Bottle: Sweet and resiny.
Me: This smells a lot like incense -- very smoky and rich and sweet. It's also warm and not as dark as I'd expected, given the notes. Nice. I think this is definitely a future bottle purchase.

Anubis started off very soapy on me... almost like incense-scented soap! This initial phase lasted for a good 20 minutes and I was despairing to ever be able to wear it when all of a sudden, the soapiness went away. Huzzah! I was left with a very true nag champa scent, down to the slight zing / lemony freshness that I associate with this particular incense.

All in all, a lovely incense blend, rather atypical in its freshness. A perfect introduction for those who get "musty hippie bookstore" when they think about incense or resins, as this is definitely on the clean, airy side of that scent family. Highly recommended! :-)

Egyptian Kyphi, Egyptian Amber, Egyptian Musk and the darkness of the dead.

Multi-faceted classic Musk, incense, with a hint of the aquatic, or aquatic floral, or in NA speak, a drop of the Nile. I agree with Gates of Duat and MaatHotep that this Musk is clean and not too rich, not too heavy, reminiscent of the air of white musk. The Kyphi surfaces quietly upon drydown.

Incense and spice and amber and more incense…sort of smoky, a little sweet, but absolutely not a bit headshoppy. Another perfect combination of the notes NA does so well, though I don't find it dark so much as a warm, comfortable burgandy with a glow behind it- like dying embers. A light throw, though...this stays close to the skin, but I can't stop sniffing my wrist! I don't smell nag champa at all, which amps to the point of being overpowering on me...it's a lighter incense than that, perhaps an understated spiced sandalwood, with a hint of clove/cinnanom/cardamom. So very nice. It's what I hoped Temple NA would be.

Bright incense, sweet amber, and tangy musk. I had no idea that I would like this scent so much, but a kind swapper included it as a freebie. I'm wearing it today and I'm hooked. I think it may even be my new favorite GC. It smells sacred and yet animalistic all at once, comforting and terrifying; spot on for Anubis!

In the bottle - A green, slightly soapy incense

Wet on me - Washing detergent with just a hint of musk behind it

Dry on me - A soft, sweet musk that reminds me of one of the first commercial perfumes that I ever brought. I can't remember it's name, but it was one of those sweet non-threatening scents they aim at teenage girls. Most odd for a god of death

Overall - Whilst it's a suprising direction for the scent, I like the drydown, at the very least for it's nostalgia factor

Anubis is dark, sensual and delicious. He was always the Egyptian god that intrigued me most, and this blend definitely is a fitting homage. I was wary of the clove in the beginning, because while I do like clove sometimes I amp it to eleven and it ends up blocking out everything else, but not here. Wet I get a lot of clove, but it soon calms down and allows the other darkly beautiful notes to emerge. The dragon's blood (black dragon's blood? I'm in love :pheart:) and red musk of Kashmir add a potent depth, and as it dries down further the amber, which seems like a gorgeous dark sticky amber, and kyphi emerge. I already love kyphi as it is, but make it black and...ohhhhh my. Amazing.

Egyptian Kyphi, Egyptian Amber, Egyptian Musk and the darkness of the dead. *added 01*01*10 Kashmir, Black Clove, Black Dragon's Blood and Black Kyphi NA Blend

This is my main scent partially because I have got the most compliments from it both male and female. And I think it smells pretty amazing on me as well. When I first put it on wet it smells like vetiver for some reason but then evolves into the beautiful blend it really is! I have worn this scent for the entire month of may. When I first got it I thought it was masculine and it had more clove to it but as I wore it on through the month I have got the amber, the darkness of the dead, the black dragons blood and the black kyphi. The notes most strong on my skin are the black dragons blood, amber, and kyphi. I know some people are afraid of cloves for being too strong but this is a clove that has been blended in so well its a good kind of clove. I suspect the kyphi balanced it out.

Somedays I would get the darkness of the dead and it would come to me very shortly. I can only describe it as the smell of ancient linen and dry bones.

overall- wet, spicy, and incensey. Wet for kyphi, spicy just because it is!, and incensey because of the black dragons blood, amber, and musk!

My scarab is almost gone! I need a bottle! :pheart:

In vial: Ooh, dry grasses and smoke.

On skin, wet: It is resiny, yet keeps its original dry grasses and smoke notes, which I liked as I sniffed it. I can smell the amber, the fruit notes of the Kyphi incense (it usually has raisins and other stuff in it...yes, I've actually made the incense myself and it's sticky!) and musk. I am not sure if my sample is before 01/01/10 or not. I don't get any clove or dragon's blood so maybe it was made before then.

On skin, dry: Smells like powered amber and grassy reeds with a sort of nag champa smoke in the background. It's nice, but I am unsure if I would want a bottle of this, maybe the older version is better. If this is the new version, maybe I am just missing the clove and blood...but I don't think I am.
