Bastet

Postby whiskerswhispers » Sun Jul 22, 2007 8:41 am

Bastet

In vial: a gorgeous soft creamy sweet floral scent. This oil also has a delightful pink colour.
On skin: ohhh, I love this! This is a sweet, smooth, gorgeous floral scent rounded off with vanilla and musk. No individual note stands out-it’s very well blended-but I can pick out rose, jasmine, vanilla and a little musk. So beautiful! The scent softens and becomes even more rounded and warm at drydown, with more of the vanilla coming through, and more of the musk coming after a few hours. It reminds me of Nefertari but smoother, less rosy and sweeter. Very feminine, sweet and gentle, not sharp, this scent is as soft and fluffy as kitten’s fur, and makes me want to purr with joy! I love the perfumes I've tried from all over based on Bastet, and here's another lovely scented interpretation of the divine feline…whilst BPAL’s is the sultry, regal, sexy side of Bastet, and Love Potion’s Bastet scent is of the wild cat lurking in the grass, this is the cat goddess at her cuddliest, purring away in the flowers, and wanting to have her tummy tickled. Meow!

I got this as a freebie with my order, which is nice because it's not the sort of thing I'd have ordered on my own. In the vial it's a sweet floral. On my skin it's dominated by black orchid. I'm an orchid fan, so this is a good thing. It's orchid amidst a bed of resin (especially frankincense) and spice (cardamom), but still primarily orchid. Why is the musk hiding from me? I'm used to a bolder musk, I guess. After awhile, the sandalwood peeks out and seems to tame the orchid a bit.

My favoritetest Egyptian Goddess of all!

And I'm *so* happy to have a Bastet scent that I truely love! Other perfumer's blends have let me down on this, but not NA.......(figures......because......well obviously NA is specialised in Egyptian scents, yes?)

This oil starts out all rosey and pink smelling on me and I so happen to love me some roses, so this is a good thing. When it dries down more flowers come out to play with Rose, making this a lovely floral scent.
The vanilla softens and sweetens the deal while the musk gives it a little more 'oomph' (the catty side of this kitty, no doubt)
This, to me, really does represent Bastet's softer, motherly protective side and I love it dearly!
ordinarily insane, but has lucid moments when merely stupid......

Bastet is soft rose petals brushing against your nose like a cat's whiskers. In the background, I can also smell orchid, and the jasmine/honeysuckle/vanilla combine to make a sweet floral note. This is soft and cuddly, to be sure! I don't smell any musk in this blend, which makes it pretty light and innocent on me.

Oh. My. This has IMMEDIATELY become one of my favorites scents.

Thank you thank you thank you for sending me this free sample, I would never have guessed I'd love it this much!

If I may compare it to another perfume, I smell Ombre Rose, which to me is all powder and rose. To my sniffer Bastet is rose, and powder, but rounder, richer; I'd have guessed there was a subtle red fruit in there to provide juicy depth.

Ombre Rose is another of my all-time favorites, something I've hoarded most of my fragrance-appreciating life. So to find a similar but so much better scent like this is like striking oil. Oh, oil, get it?

This one is a floral scent. I'm not a huge fan of florals for the most part. It started out pretty sharp but dried down very nicely. It rounded out and lost the tang that makes me wrinkle my nose.

Bastet is a very lovely dignified lady :D

Beautiful dewy florals, rose, honeysuckle, orchid and jasmine show themselves in that order. The florals are clear and unmuddied. The vanilla and musk stay in the background and do not mar the florals. The jasmine threatens to be unruly but calms down and rests her petals on the musk & Honeysuckle. Rose is most prominent when dry. Vanilla colors the entire blend with a soft sweetness. Overall a soft floral, supported by the musk & vanilla, very cool and translucent.

Me: Oh, this is really nice on my skin. At first, I get the rose, which I don't particularly like, but it fades a little bit and the jasmine amps up. Something really sweet comes out, which I think is the honeysuckle and the vanilla. This is soft and sweet and feminine, and oh so pretty. I love this one, and will definitely be getting a bottle. This is so calming, too!

This is a definite bottle buy, but I'm going to wait and see if it comes out in the NAlloy Shimmer, first. :jump4joy:

Hmmm...The NA rose seems to not work as well on my skin as I'd hoped. It doesn't turn bad; however, it does go psycho and brutally dispatch all the other notes except vanilla. This leaves Bastet a simple vanilla rose on me, and while it's still wearable, I already have some oils like it. Luckily, I have a friend who is going to a masquerade as Bastet and hopefully she will give this skarab a good home and perhaps be enabled by moi!

Red Egyptian Musk, Black Orchid, Honeysuckle, Dark Rose and Jasmine with a touch of soft vanilla

Wet: Orchid and Jasmine-Rose jumps right out. There's that delicated whisper of musk and vanilla too!

Dry: Honeysuckle faded a bit but rose still very visible. I dont get a dark rose but a pale, dewy pink rose scent. The musk with vanilla are so heavnly here. Very soft and feminine!!!

Verdict: STUNNING! Easily a favourite blend of mine as far as floral catagory goes. I love that vanilla here didnt really smell like typical tonka bean vanilla but an ethereal white flower-ish(probably the jasmine) vanilla! Since June is wedding season, this blend really suits the brides to be! Gorgeous, intoxicating, not crazy heavy florals! And I love that the rose in NA's blend are so geniune and gentle. None of that musky/dirt/powdery roses that I'm scared of.

In the imp: light florals, honeysuckle and orchid

Wet: same delicate honeysuckle and orchid

Dry: The vanilla is not like any vanilla I have experienced, nor is the musk. Nothing is heavy, just wonderfully blended. A gentle warmth permeates the florals. The dark rose, jasmine are just barely there.

Verdict: Fabulous!! When I read all the notes I was afraid of floral overload. Drydown is wonderful. A bouquet of the florals blend down together--no one note dominates. Gentle like the goddess herself. :hearts:

Bastet has a lovely balance of rose and jasmine, and the other florals add roundness to the bouquet. The musk and vanilla soften the edges of florals that otherwise could be sharp or high-pitched. This is a very pretty floral scent and it should be sampled by rose lovers and haters alike - you may be converted!!

For those afraid of florals, Bastet is a gateway drug... I mean scent. The earthy elements corral all of the florals into a balanced fragrance that is decidedly feminine without being the least bit submissive. I wear this on days when I feel my yin overtaking my yang. Never weak, it's a smell of strength and beauty... almost lunar. Good for full-moon nights, too.
Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.

Ahhh Bastet.... you are a goddess, a beautiful, ethereal, timeless, feminine, dreamy, regal goddess!

I wore Bastet today today for a sombre occasion, and the wafts of scent that enveloped me were just lovely.... I looked at the notes and couldn't believe it - rose? honeysuckle??! JASMINE??!?!?! The rose was just beautiful - beautiful! I can't wear many rose scents, but this was just amazing! I don't get a strong honeysuckle or jasmine note, but they're all in there, supporting each other and creating this blend!! It really does seem fit for a goddess, a woman who is comfortable in her skin... The scent was just so perfectly blended and I totally get the Ombre Rose reference Hazel-rah! I had a little bottle of it when I was in high school and it was the ultimate in femininity for me...

This is going on my bottle wishlist for sure!

I received this as a freebie and boy am glad I did. This is such a pretty feminine scent. I get roses and jasmine and a slight hint of vanilla. On my skin the vanilla blooms to make te flowers creamier, without being overtaken.

understated, gentle, and very sexy. Sweet musks with juuust a hint of floral (a teensy tiny breath). Mostly musks, though, bringing nokturne2 to mind. The florals come out a little more later, but are never overpowering and are so sweetly blended that I can't really distinguish what they are! Gorgeous, is what they are. I might indulge myself with a bottle of this.

Musk + vanilla + my skin = plastic sadness

It started so wonderful, playful and creamy. Then when it dried, the musk rolled in and made everything go plastic. I'm so very sad. I've yet to find a scent of my patron goddess that agrees with me. Maybe I'll find a decant of Meditation and have better luck with that, though it also has musk and vanilla.

I'm trying, Goddess! I really am!! :(

In the bottle - The rose dominates; a deep, dark, lush, rose

Wet on me - The rose still dominates, but there is a hint of vanilla and just a feel of the red musk

Dry on me - A soft, powdery floral; very pretty

Overall - I was pleasantly surprised by this; orchid, rose and jasmine all have a tendency to go hellish sharp on me and this didn't, it remained delicate and pretty. It's still not really something I would wear though

Wet: Sweet and warm. To me, it smells like jammy red fruit entwined with honey-sweet florals in a bed of creamy deep musk.

Dry: Rose and vanilla dominate the scent, and now that I've looked at the notes, the strong orchid component seems obvious. Very sweet, a little bit 'exotic'. Over time the vanilla gets even stronger, and on my skin, it's coming off as having fruity-floral overtones.

Overall: Bastet smells too sweet and syrupy for me, but I'm just glad to see that the jasmine NA uses is NOT a kiss of death! I never would have guessed there was jasmine in here, I usually hate jasmine in other perfume lines!

This is beautiful. I get a lot of musky undertone with rose and a touch of jasmine. It smells very sophisicated and refined. The combination of floral, musk, and vanilla work well together. Another scent on my shopping list.
