Shadow: Dragons of Egypt: Nomastikha

Postby moontess » Fri Feb 08, 2008 11:49 pm

Molten Rye, Black Hyssop, White and Black Clove and Egyptian Myrrh.

Wet: Yay clove! This is a very dry spice clove. Tasty.
Dry: Creamy Spice! This is going to be a bottle purchase for sure.

Hm.....on me this one smells like something I'd season my meat with........not something I want to voluntarily smell like.....
It's really spicy, clove-y and herbal......it's starting to give me a headache, so I'm going to wash this one off........now!
ordinarily insane, but has lucid moments when merely stupid......

Nomastikha
In vial: spicy, herbal, myrrh-y and a tad medicinal.
On skin: there’s something darkly grainy here that reminds me of pumpernickel bread, that’s the rye note, I’m sure. I also smell the herbal, slightly liquorice-like smell of hyssop, and lots of clove. Under it all is a shadowy and gorgeous myrrh undertone. In fact, the myrrh is the dominant note here, a rich dark resin enhanced by the clove. Eventually the medicinal/herbal notes fade, and the clove really shows off. And what a gorgeous clove note! Smooth, sweet and creamy, with hints of vanilla to it, with a fantastic dark resinous undertone from the myrrh. This is really gorgeous and warm and sweet, it comes across as a surprisingly cosy scent, which smells almost toasted (probably because of the rye). Actually this smells more and more like bread or Ryvita crackers as it dries down, but with the clove and myrrh stopping it from smelling too much like crackers! There just aren’t enough perfumes with grain notes, and I really like this one and can’t stop sniffing it. This is a surprise favourite in the Shadow Dragons collection! Potential bottle.

Wet-/in vial Slightly sweet and herbal.

On skin- It sweetens ever so slightly and the clove emerges. A lovely, subtle spicy clove, which is nice since I tend to amp clove like mad. The myrrh is lovely in this and gives the blend just a touch of sweet incense. There's also a very soft creamy-buttery note that sneaks in now and again and hovers quietly in the background.
Overall, warm, soft spice with a dusting of sweetness & incense. I really like this one! And hey, "Witch Dragon", gotta love her!

I thought for sure with the notes that this would be a winner on me. My skin, turned it into pickles. Yep, pickles. After about 10 minutes it does get a fruity sweetness with pickles. Stoopid skin.

Ok edited because I didn't wash it off, and caught a whiff of a sweet, creamy, spicy scent that was just lovely. Realized it was me, and Nomastikha. She is lovely. I think I can live through the pickle stage if this is what I get.

In the vial this smells like.... hot cross buns! The clove and hyssop combine to create something almost fruity, it's a bit like anise but I'm picturing it as a currant to go with the hot cross bun. Maybe I'm deluding myself.

On my skin the myrrh comes out a bit more. It's lovely warm spice with a deep herbal tone and everything blends together wonderfully.

Bottle: Dark and spicy.
Me: This is unusual. It's very spicy, but doesn't scream "clove" to me. I think I'm getting the rye, in the form of a grainy, almost grasslike (but dry grass, not green) scent, and a hint of something dark, which is probably the myrrh. It's very unusual and well-blended, and I'm almost getting a vanilla-like smell from the throw, but up close, I'm not sure it's something I like. We'll see how it dries down.
Later: This morphs through this heavy, grainy smell I don't really care for to a pretty, spicy clove scent that I really do. :)

The rye in this scent smells like fennel or licorice. It's herbal and fresh smelling. Then, the clove comes out a bit more and adds complexity.

A very interesting scent, and although I wouldn't choose it casually as a perfume, it has a meditative soothing effect and it's quite pleasant.
Ever notice how irons have a setting for permanent press? I don't get it.

Sweet herbal hyssop, the heat from clove is low at this point but it's definitely stirring. The rye is there but isn't making me notice it too much, the soft herbal hyssop, spicey warm clove and lovely myrrh is harmonizing with the rye. I really don't like the smell or taste of rye, I find it truly offensive. This, however is not, far from it actually. Like WW said upthread, it's "cosy". A perfect fall/winter night oil, it's warming qualities with that bit of heated spice. Can't stop sniffing, yummy!

Also my skarab was probably a wee bit aged. so ymmv.

I don't like this one in the sample vial, but I tried it on anyway. It's sort of subtle at first, then the cloves decide to bloom with a WHOOOSH! I wonder which clove it is that I don't like, because this blend has two of them and it's quite lovely- but other clove blends go off on me rather drastically. This is a straight up clove blend on me, surprisingly sweet (now that I've smelled Nokturne: Andalusite I think it's myrrh sweeting this blend) and almost floral, almost anisy-spicy. I don't get rye at all- perhaps it is giving it the anise-like character I sense? It stays clove for hours, with a minimal throw that stays close to the skin. Interesting! Definitely a dark scent.

In the vial, it was very sharp and bitingly herbal - once on the skin it really opens up and morphs into a warm, creamy, soothing mild clove scent.
I have a tendency to amp clove out of the park, but this one remains in check and plays nicely with others.
I applied this about 2 hrs ago... and now I'm getting a hint of... coconut? My skin does strange things with clove, so who knows.

But this is a very nice scent: Dark, warm, comforting, creamy, almost foody on me. Very nice, and very different from my initial impression in the vial.

This scent is weird and delicious on me.

It's so creamy that it's foody, but if it was a food it would be very spicy. It makes me think of coconut curry, but the kind that I want to wear instead of eating. . . except that if I had a plate of it I would totally eat it. I just mean that it's not too foody. I'm surprised to see that there is clove in this, because while I usually amp clove (single note: clove fiesta), but it doesn't take over here.

Verdit: A slightly puzzled "nomnomnomnomnom", because I can't figure out what produces such a distinct and sassy sweet creaminess.

In the skarab - It's a kind of generic incense; a bit more church than hippy

Wet on me - Cola flavoured sweets and butter

Dry on me - A warm dry incense, with hints of sweetness

Overall - A perfectly reasonable scent, but not one that grabs me
