Pyramid of Menkaure

Postby Llorhn » Tue Jan 15, 2008 3:04 am

PoM is wonderfully rich in dark amber and the sediment of limestone balanced beautifully with exotic balsam. Tangelo and NA’s white Amber complete the Pyramid of Menkaure.

I was so excited to get this oil to complete my Pyramid set! I loved the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Khafre scents tremendously. And the Pyramid of Menkaure did not disappoint at all. Just like the other two, this one smells faint of must and stone, like the inside of an ancient tomb. But it's also so very sweet. A tangy floral note that's beautiful! It makes the scent smell clean along with the dust in the Pyramid. Must be the offering waiting for the awakening. It's refreshing. It wakes my mind and makes me feel more energetic. What a wonderful positive scent! Later as it calms, I smell more of the amber which sweetens the tanginess even more. I honestly cannot stop sniffing my hand. What an enchanting scent. I am thrilled to have this bottle, and the complete Pyramid set!!

It's my favorite scent and I adore dragons... so I just HAD to pick that name. ;)

Pyramid of Menkaure
In bottle: very similar to Amber Moon, a mix of amber and citrus.
On skin: oh yeah, here comes the wonderful pyramid amber! Smelling like a mix of breezy white and sweet dark amber, with a sprinkling of sand and a background of limestone, and this time with a squeeze of zingy citrus. Not long after that I get a beautiful balsam fir note coming out…and I’ve got to admit, the combination of tangerine and fir in here is slightly reminiscent of Christmas! It certainly reminds me a bit of Christmas in Egypt, thanks to the amber and fir mix. However, underneath this is that wonderful pyramid base of sun baked stone. This is a lot less evergreen than CiE, and a less citrus-y than Amber Moon, and this scent is a little bit drier than those. And it’s a lot more amber-licious as well. I’m a huge fan of the pyramid scents, so it’s no surprise I love this, the bright, zingy pyramid scent that contrasts with Khafre’s nocturnal scent and Khufu’s incense-y, aged scent. The citrus does fade over time so the scent becomes a wonderful balsamic amber with a dusty, stony undertone. Almost like a gentler version of Christmas in Egypt which feels more suitable for other times of the year…the dusty, sandy scent gets stronger over time so the drydown is a wonderful dry desert amber scent like a lighter Khufu. I am so glad I got a bottle of this, my Giza triad is complete and I adore this one just as much as the other two pyramid scents!

I smell pine, it isn't one of the notes listed, but I smell pine, like in Faience Moon pine. I smell the amber, it is beautiful, and I smell stone. I love this in so many ways. And it is a nice substitute when my Faience Moon is all gone. Beautiful, just beautiful. I need a big bottle of this for certain. :D

Initial impression:
It smells oddly citrusy in the vial.

First on:
Soft musk and a bit of citrus-like something-or-other.

Dry:
After 10 mins, it's all soft musks. Mmm. And the nice kind, too. Alas, it disappears quick as heck on me...

Finally:
Passing it on. Nice to try, though!

Probably not something I'd wear based on notes but wearing it.... It's refreshing! Like a cool breeze on a hot day. The tangelo is a very nice citrus note, sweet and orangey. Combined with the balsam, quite impressive!

Mmm, this one worked really well for me! Right away I smell the amber and balsam, which is the "pine" that the reviewer above was smelling. I loooove piney smells, and NA's amber with piney smells is such love. The tangelo adds a slight citrus tang... I usually amp citrus beyond whatever other notes it's hanging out with, but here the tangelo only serves to add a bit of tang to the balsam; they meld together seamlessly. This has excellent throw and staying power on me.

If Amber Moon and Faience Moon got together and left a sexeh bebeh on the GC catalog's doorstep, it would be Pyramid of Menkaure.

Bottle: Sun-warmed cedar.
Me: No, not cedar -- must be the balsam, as it smells almost evergreen. Also getting a bit of the amber. This is pretty and different.
Later: It dries down to a warm, rich scent.

Pine, citrus, and amber. The pine is dominant at first, but soon the citrus comes in and makes itself known. Combined with the amber and cold sandy note from the other pyramids, it's extremely pretty. Fresh and bracing, and I really like the pine-citrus combination. It ran the risk of smelling too much like an air freshener (or cleaner) blend, but the amber and the limestone soften it enough and give it enough complexity to keep it securely in perfume territory. It dies down to a lovely pine-limestone blend with a hint of powdery amber. Another winner from NA.

Hmm, the Limestone is fainter here than in the other Pyramids. The evergreen of fir trees, sweet Dark Amber and bitter citrus rind are all very strong, though I believe I tend to amp pine-y tree notes. The scent occasionally plumbs a rich Dark Amber depth but mostly the notes hover atop the more astringent notes.

Interesting facts: Balsam resin is a traditional cold remedy, potpourri and aromatherapy; one site that sells balsam products names it the "warm friendship herb." Balsam oil is also a non-toxic rodent repellant :o

I prefer the other two Pyramids but only because my relationship with evergeen notes is often rocky. If you like pine and fir notes, you'll likely love this!
