Phyriad

Postby whiskerswhispers » Sun Jul 22, 2007 3:41 am

Phyriad

In bottle: cherry-almond! It's an amaretto scent with a bit of spice.
On skin: still cherry and almond, but now the cardamom comes out! As does the mint, which adds a contrasting coolness to the cardamom's warmth, and some herbal sage as well. I can smell a gorgeous rich amber underneath the spicy cherry and mint. This is really nice! It's quite a complex and layered scent, with fresh mint and warm spiced fruit, a little bit of sage to ground the scent and a gorgeous amber sweetness, rounding everything off. After a while the amber really comes out and shows off, and it's a wonderful amber note, resinous and rich, almost like incense and sugar with cardamom. There's still that mint note on top of it which, despite it's light coolness being the total opposite of the warm heavy amber, doesn't clash with it at all. This is actually a gorgeous earthy amber scent. I'm so glad that this scent was upgraded to a bottle because I love it-I'm a huge fan of NA's amber and cardamom scents and this one is wonderful.

Scent of Cardamom, Black Cherry, Sage, dark Amber and Moroccan Mint. Dark fire without the cinnamon.

In the bottle it's a lovely, almost creamy, mint. Once it hits the skin the other notes blossom beautifully and blend perfectly, none overpowering the other. The amber & cardamom add a subtle spice which is lovely, the cherry(to me), is fresh and not overly sweet & the sage works in tandem with the gorgeous Moroccan mint--keeps it from being "icy" without losing any of the minty goodness. There's also a nice but very subtle smoky incense thing going on after about 20 minutes or so.
LOVE this blend!!

At first, Phyriad is *very* cherry and I worry that it's going to go over into cough syrup/Luden's cough drop territory. Of course, this is Nocturne Alchemy we're talking about. wtf was I worried for? After a few minutes, the other notes bloom and blend, and Phyriad does indeed turn into a wonderfully dark scent. It smells voluptuous, deeply plum colored, but the oil itself is very light. This cardamom is stunning, and I want to get my grubby lil hands on more NA cardamom scents.

This is such a well-blended scent. You can pick out the sage and mint if you try very hard, but really, it all blends together into one Phyriad. Love it!

Topnotes in this are the cherry and the mint, backed up by the spices.....The cardamom is very evident and NA's cardamom is very nice.
As per usual the mint is eaten by my skin fairly quickly, leaving me with a véry spicy scent........it get's a leeetle softer by means of the amber, but overall it's way too spicy for me to wear as a perfume.
I like the scent tho, so I'll keep my Skarab for sniffing purposes!

I received Phyriad as a skarabite, much to my surprised...because this one was thisclose to making it into my first skarab pack. How did they know? To my VERY unskilled nose this reminds me of Big Red chewing gum when wet, but dries into a spicy, almost herbal mint. I like it very much, and so does my skin, apparently because it's completely gone in about 45 minutes. I will definitely try this out in a scent locket.

My first review---and it's for Phyriad!

I was very skeptical about this because I love cinnamon and how can a scent be "fiery" without the cinnamon?? But that very statement intrigued me (and also it was mentioned in the bpal forum that this was a must have for incense lovers--which I am!).

So I have a skarabite now. In the vial, it's sharp and medicinal--herbal. I detect the piercing quality of mint and something sage-like (is there sage in this?)

But it warms up on the skin. First I smell the cherry and then some mint and something spicy--is it the cardamon? It's sweet (like mint tea) but dry--very interesting! It has an incense-y feel. And I think incense lovers with appreciate this. I know that it definitely different enough to add to my collection as 5ml!

Bottle: Cherry, sage and faintly, cardamom.
Me: Cherry, sage, and just hints of the mint and cardamom. This is nice, but somewhat faint on me.
Later: The cherry fades pretty quickly on my skin, but leaves a minty sage scent which is quite nice.

Dark cherry, then suddenly the sage then the mint warms up and the cool haze of cardamom drifts in. A smoldering red scent, a flickering flame accompanied by a plume of white smoke. It also tickles the nose. After a bit the fire burns clean, the color changes from a bold red to a transluscent grey.

Without looking at the notes, I identified cinnamon, almond, and mint. So it's not cinnamon or almond, but cardamom and cherry...I wouldn't have figured that combination could possibly work, but here it is really, really beautiful. The cardamom and warm cherry bring out the fresh, sweet spiciness of the mint, rather than the sharp iciness. None of the three overpower the others, and the result is something that smells delicious, like an exotic mint tea or an exotic drink. I don't get "dark" with this scent at all...but it's definitely warm and rich. I've never met a mint scent that did this, where the mint was *warm* rather than icy. Unusual and very well blended! Neat!

Well, let me say that I never meant to give this one a home. It just jumped in my cart on its own,- right after I clicked on the wrong dragon. But some things happen when they need to. (My husband would say this is sounding like when we end up with another animal in the house.)
At first- Cherry cough syrup- oh no- I don't like cherry/berry scents. But just minutes after hitting my skin cherry is gone and
as someone else said, it becomes more amaretto, very minty, with a little sage, and tiny, tiny cardamom. Almost medicinal, but not really, because this is very soft and soothing and after a bit the amaretto fades, the cardamom gives a very soft kick that I really have to pay attention to to pick up on. Then amber comes along and grounds everything. It really is so nice.
I said earlier how some things are meant to be and it turns out I needed this. For a few years, while I was in school, I worked the overnight shift and my sleep has been screwed since then. Until I found Phyriad! I always wear a scent to bed and when I put this baby on I slept peacefully and was a gentle dreamer all night long!

In the scarab - The almondy scent of the cherry, with something slightly bitter

Wet on me - Warm, woody almonds with a touch of soap and something herbal

Dry on me - The amber and mint come through, but it's quite faint and fades quickly

Overall - It was lighter than I expected, but pretty, however, it faded too quickly to be practible as a scent for me

Scent of Cardamom, Black Cherry, Sage, dark Amber and Moroccan Mint. Dark fire without the cinnamon.

Wow, is this just plain strange! At first a blast of Black Cherry that surprisingly in no way resembles cough syrup or amaretto liqueur but smells just like big fat black cherries. Hot on its tail is the Cardamom, which blazes for but a moment. Then comes the weird stage that I'm going to be hard-pressed to describe but I'll try: The mint is cool but to my nose not at all creamy or icy or foody nor too herbal, just - mint. Aromatic but not medicinal or overwhelming. The Sage is a dry earthy savory component, practically the opposite of the Mint, but it works. The Amber comes through on drydown and mixes with the Black Cherry to become a little sweeter, not at all resinous, and lightly sprinkled with the Cardamom.

Seriously, this must be the weirdest scent that I've ever smelled and I :hearts: it!
