Plum Om Ali

Postby Amunet » Thu Dec 11, 2008 2:34 pm

Beautiful fresh Egyptian plum plucked from beside the Nile, Butter scented pastry, Egyptian Vanilla and sugar and a touch of Musk to not make this completely salivating - but exotic and beautiful and meant to take you to that same table where I sat and bring forth an inhale of Egyptian delight.

Bright succulent plum with a subtle tartness, nicely sweetened… Very flirtatious! The plum gives way to a pastry & musk scent with a lovely hint of warmed fruit. Also the impression of coconut, just a small bit. I honestly didn't think I'd like this one, but dangit, I do... lots!

My first NA review. :-o I received this as a scarabite in a package. When I took the lid off it was butter followed by the smell of a slightly tart plum. After I put it on the butter was less pronounced, and it became much creamier due to the appearance of the vanilla. Once dry it is a creamy sweet plum. Not as tart but not overly sweet either.

Bottle: Sweet, spicy plum.
Me: This is very pretty -- the plum is more syrupy than fresh, but it's rich and thick and juicy. I get the faintest hint of the pastry and a stronger dose of something spicy (cinnamonish) and sweet. This is a lovely scent, and very fruity/foody. Yum.

I tested this on three different spots, because I got such STRONG cinnamony spice! But I see that agot got that too. A first bite of buttery plum, then it becomes plummy spice for quite a while. The last few bites are of a softer sweet plum and musk. A thick, rich scent.

I had no idea what this was when I got a freebie sample of it. But I gave it a go and...OMG! yum! What is this? Sort of a sweet pastry with lots of cinnamon and spice and some sort of fruit! Maybe some nuts, as well, and it lasts a long time, eventually dying down into a sedate, warm vanilla.

Best of all, the cinnamon doesn't burn me- most cinnamon scents either give me a rash or smell like used chewing gum on me. This one is warm and buttery and just right.

WOW, this is a beautiful scent.

Cant believe I waited a long time to ordered a skarabite of Plum Om Ali!

Wet: Spiced candied plum with sultry-buttery-creamy undertone.

Dry: More candied plum with exotic spieces and faint of pastry-milky goodness. So very glad the spieces are well blended and no visible cinnamon-over kill (i hate how cinnamon would take over an entire blend in my oils)..not here, it's just makes the plum more magkical and comforting.

Verdict: I wore this oil for 4 days straight. That tells you something, doesnt it? I love that the plum here is not the extra fresh/fruity kind, but rather with a dosage of "holiday" festive feel that does not smell like potpourri... it's the kind of plum where it makes me want to cuddle and be around my love ones!!!

Well done, NA/RA. This and Flourite Moon are my TOP NA oils ever. Glad it's a GC. :D

I'd probably never have ordered this, but received skarabites from a decanter and NA, and found I loved it. There's something I love about this scent, though I can't exactly put my finger on what it is [bad reviewer  ]

I have learned from this to be more willing to try notes I'm unsure of. [Well, except for chocolate/cocoa notes. I just don't like those.]

There's a line in The English Patient where Count Almasy, being fed a plum, states 'this is a rather plum plum' and honestly, this scent reminds me of that line..... I don't get the buttery pastry (in a way that's good since whenever i wear foody scents I tend to eat things I shouldn't) but the plum is so deep - a dark purple, sweet juicy plum - and it's just gorgeous. It cut through the dank Monday-ness and wintery stillness today (I guess you can say it was a rather Monday... Monday. Ugh. That was terrible. Somebody trout me) and was just the perfect mid-winter scent - a reminder of sunnier, brighter, juicier days ahead!!! Once the scent dried down, the vanilla peeked out more and more and I was left frantically sniffing a fruity, creamy lingering scent. Beautiful!!!

In the vial this is all plum and warm, soft cinnamon.

Immediately on my skin this is mostly a plum scent with spiciness blending in. I smell soft, warm cinnamon and a definite light creaminess with the plum.

After a while, the vanilla and musk come out just a little and the cinnamon fades a little, though the plum still stays the main focus of this blend. It’s sweet and fruity with more of a bakery feel than it had at first. It’s still a little too strong on the fruit and spice for me, but I can see that some people would love this scent.

In the vial and on skin: the yummiest warm spiced plum you can imagine!

This is a perfect deep, spicy plum. I don't get any of the buttery baked goods notes at all, more like the filling from a plum pastry rather than the whole pastry. Just a delectable sticky sweet plum with hints of cinnamon and spice. Rich and fruity and not overwhelming at all with the spices, though I do enjoy spicy blends a lot, so perhaps I've got a higher tolerance to cinnamon than others might. This is definitely right up there with my favorite NA blends. I see a bottle of this one in my future!

This is a cinnamon spicy, ripe plum on me. Very cinnamony at first, but that quiets down a bit after awhile and the plum stays put with spiciness still there but softer. I especially like the plum because I haven't seen that scent anywhere else and it really is a true plum scent to my nose. I think of this as a good scent to walk from spring into summer- its spicy warm for the nippy spring air we still have in my area and the plum is juicy ripeness as the warmth of the day develops. I don't get any of the buttery pastry others noted and maybe that will come up for me as I try it again later. I hope so, because that would really make it wonderful.

Mmmmm!

Plum Om Ali starts out with a berry-like plum note, it makes me think of ripe, juicy strawberries. There is an undertone of creaminess, and as the scent dries down, the creamy buttery vanilla notes come out more and more. I guess there might be a hint of cinnamon, but I can't really pick up on it, which means it's subtle and adds just a hint of pastry-esque goodness.

It ends up smelling exactly like the description, which is to say, gorgeous!! A lovely addition to the General Catalog!

I got this as a freebie in my first order, and I'm so glad I did! I never would have ordered it on my own, but it was by far my favorite out of the scarabs I got. At first it was a rich spiced plum, but I didn't get any buttered pastry. I really liked the richness of it. But then I let the scarab sit and a couple of weeks later put it on--yes, at first a big blast of rich plum but then...what is that? The best, sweetest cinnamon ever! It is really a gorgeous soft cinnamon, not like anything I've smelled before...(though it kind of reminds me of the softness of the cinnamon in Possets Wiley). There is a bit of the rich plum under all that gorgeous cinnamon, but mostly I've got the best sweet cinnamon scent ever.

Big bottle order. :D

eta: I've also noticed that sometimes I DO get the plum....and all I can say is, everytime I wear this I think "sugar plums" even though I honestly have no idea what sugar plums are or what they smell like. But it has the plum richness, plus sweetness, plus cinnamon. A total winner, and totally addictive!

This one I was curious about. I'm very picky with fruity scents & don't usually go for very fruity ones. I wanted to try this one though as plum is one of the few fruit scents I do like, but I was expecting (& hoping for) a vanilla scent with a hint of plum rather than a "plum scent".

Initially I got plum with a sweet almost cherry-like quality. There was a hint of cinnamon pastry in the background. On drydown it became more like plum jam with a hint of golden honey on a bed of musk.

So, no vanilla, but I do really like it :)

In the scarab - Bright, sweet yet tart, plums

Wet on me - That lovely bright sharpness of the plums, with a slightly candied edge

Dry on me - Soft, lightly candied fruit

Overall - It started off brilliantly, but it faded and the dry down lacks punch

In the vial and wet it's sweet and juicy spiced plums. It smells so good!

Kinda reminds me of Teaberry gum, which I love.

Yummy blend.

Mmmm, got a skarabite of this in my latest order. Very plummy, with other tasty notes, but not overly foody, thankfully. Good stuff!
